The problem
The 20 municipalities are grouped for the management of their waste management to generate economies of scale. To maximize their savings, they wanted to combine their schedules to get equal tonnage collection days. This stability in daily tonnage would reduce pressure on their collectors, and consequently, reduce their costs.
The approach
Following an in-depth analysis of operational constraints, MELIORE developed a mathematical model to optimize the use of their supplier.
The benefits
The optimization of the schedule made a better use of the supplier usage, within the operational constraints. The collector was able to reduce the number of trucks used by 50% during the busiest day.
